Restorative Aide/Activities Assistant

Full-Time

The Gilbert Residence provides basic nursing care to 32 residents. Supportive Living, Assisted Living and Specialized Dementia care to 58 residents. We carry a long tradition of excellence by providing compassionate and dignified care.

The Activity Assistant assists the Activity Director to provide group and individual activities for the residents. Duties will involve personal contact with a varying resident population and a varied work schedule that may include some weekends, evenings, and holidays. Tasks also will involve record keeping, attention to the environment, use of supplies and equipment, and maintenance of storage areas.

The Gilbert Residence is a smoke free campus. Smoking or the use of tobacco products is prohibited in or on all Gilbert Residence buildings, grounds, parking lots, vehicles, or sidewalks adjacent to the property.

DUTIES

Perform range of motion exercises (active and passive), assist resident to get on nu-step, and assist with walking using gate belt.

Gather and document on residents data for restorative therapeutic purposes.

Understand and communicate with nurses, charge nurse, director of nursing, physical therapist and occupational therapist about referrals and updates on residents.

Monitor and keep track of changes in residents under restorative nursing care.

Inform nurses of developments in residents health.

Attend staff meetings, in-service programs, conferences on the unit.

Assist Life Enrichment Director with coordinating and facilitating activities and events for residents, both inside and outside the community, designed to promote resident's

creativity, physical and mental well-being, socialization, and fun!

Encourage resident socialization and participation in activities and events to minimize resident loneliness and promote a positive community environment.

Visit with residents one on one to promote socialization.

Maintain inventory checklist of all supplies and materials required to enhance Life Enrichment programs.

Document and record participation of residents daily programs.

Assign tasks to volunteers and encourage their participation in activities programs.

Welcome new residents upon move-in (balloons, calendar, card, and newsletter).

Work alongside with care staff to transport residents to activities and events.

Assist with all other duties as assigned by the Life Enrichment Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience working with geriatric residents with physical and/or cognitive deficits preferred

- Must be upbeat and high energy

- Posses patience and be able to adapt when necessary

- Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team

- Posses ability to take initiative and be reliable

- Ability to drive facility bus for outings.

- Good verbal and written communication skills

- Able to follow scheduled plans.

- Respect for the rights of the residents including the right to privacy and the right to make choices.

-Maintains composure in stressful situations.

- Able to lift 40 lbs
